Your Antarctic experience begins as soon as your ship leaves port, with on-board lectures by the ship’s specialist expedition staff on Antarctic history, geology, the birdlife and marine wildlife. Once you reach the sub-Antarctic islands or the mainland you will go ashore by zodiac inflatables to walk amongst penguin rookeries, explore historic sites and visit scientific research stations. Some voyages offer the chance to camp overnight on the ice. Some departures offer the option for more adventurous explorations such as kayaking, cross country skiing and mountaineering.
Highlights of our optional Antarctic activities include:
• Explore isolated shorelines in small groups by inflatable Zodiac
• Kayak pristine bays amongst glaciers and towering icebergs
• Spend a night camping on the ice shelf
• Enjoy encounters with incredible wildlife on shore excursions
• Discover hidden underwater treasures on a diving expedition
• Cross country ski into inner, remote regions of Antarctica
• Ice-climb or mountaineer on peak on the Peninsula
